From 1994 to 2001, the Talibans and Al-Qaeda were dominated the whole of the Afghanisthan. It was not a legitimate Government perse since it was equal to a Jungle raj. The United States blamed Bin Laden for the terrorist attacks on Twin Towers and the Pentagon and the attack on US Embassy in Africa. As a result, US waged war against Taliban.
Many countries around the world have not listened whenever India has made allegations that all sorts of terrorist attacks on India over the years are due to possible links between militant groups operating from Pakistan and organizations such as the Taliban. India is one of the world’s most vulnerable countries to terrorist attacks on a daily basis. After the 1971 war with Pakistan, India did not face any major wars. However, we continue to face attacks from extremist organizations such as the Mujahedeen and Lashkar-e-Taiba in the Kashmir border from Pakistan. The Kargil War of 1999 and the terrorist attacks on the Indian Army across the border in Pathankot and Pulwama in 2019 were some of the significant incidents.
We have not yet, fully recovered from the economic downturn caused by the corona that has paralyzed the world and India for the past year and a half. However, it is worrying that the threat to India’s security in various forms around the Indian border is growing day by day especially the immediate from Afghan Taliban.
India experienced a critical situation because of the terrorists attack in the past. On December 1999 when an Air India flight bound to Delhi from Nepal Capital Kathmandu was hijacked to Kandahar by the Pakistani terrorists. The Taliban were the ones who provided security for the hijacked plane so that the passengers would not be released by the actions of Indian Commandos. After three days of negotiations, three terrorists from Indian jails were released and handed over to the Talibans to rescue 178 Indian passengers. No other country in the world would have allowed such abductions against India. Only because of Afghan Talibans support the Pakistani Terrorists could made this hijack happened.
Even after the partition of India by religion, Pakistan soil is used as a platform to act against Indians. Still Pakistan is a breeding ground for terrorists in the world today. No matter how many countries condemn it but Pakistan instead of destroying the extremists’ camps it grooming those camps. While the Taliban were expected to be completely wiped out after the US and its Allied Forces (NATO) invaded Afghanistan in 2001. No one cares about the news that the Taliban have resurfaced in Afghanistan 20 years later and taken control of several major cities. This is the worrying concern to India. The arbitrary decision of the United States & NATO in the case of the Taliban issue proves that imperialists’ forces cannot be fully trusted in world politics.
While US and Allied forces were all camped in Afghanistan, US President Trump held secret talks with the Taliban in the Gulf state of Qatar during Feb-2020. Why the United States should have dual stand by announcing Al-Qaeda and the Taliban as global terrorist organizations and on the other hand holding secret talks with them? The United States should explain the world the purpose of the talks with Taliban and its outcome.
As soon as the announcement came that US and NATO forces would be withdrawn from Afghanistan by August 31, Afghan Taliban came out freely with weapons and taken control of chunk of rural and urban areas of Afghanistan. These were well reported in the international Medias too. If all the US forces withdrawn from Afghanistan as planned by August 31, the democratic government of Ashraf Ghani which was created by the US and its allies will collapse like play cards and it will create a dire situation for Afghanistan to fall completely into the hands of the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Significance of the Foreign Minister Jaishankar Prasad deliberations for more than Three weeks with the leaders of the surrounding countries including India, Kazakhstan, Russia, China and Iran explains the present situation prevails in Afghanistan.
After 20 years of US & its ally’s presence in Afghanistan, by this time they could have completely thrown out Taliban and other terrorists organizations from Afghanistan. But it was not happened. Based on the agreement made by the Taliban with the US, it can be assumed that the Americans will not be harmed temporarily. But India cannot take it lightly because we are already subject to cross-border terrorism especially in western part and the Jammu Kashmir region.
Talibans are well known for their religious fundamentalism. During Taliban regime, they did not listen to world request and demolished thousands of year old historical monument of Buddha in Bamiyanregion. Whatever the areas they occupied recently in Afghanistan in those areas the girl children were forbidden to go to school. Women were not allowed to move out of home without the male member of the family or to go for work. Even people were not allowed to access Television, Radio, Internet and other cultural activities.
To quote one of the inhuman activities of Talibans, Even they spoiled the food sent by UN to 1.5 million starving Afghan people, they also blamed the members of UN who came to Afghanistan that they were converting the Afghan people to Christianity. Later UN volunteers captured and imprisoned. Another incident of their cruelty was when 25 Afghan soldiers who laid down their arms and weapons were mercilessly shot dead last week; few days back an Indian journalists photographer named Danish Siddique was shot dead.
Members of the US and European Parliament and human rights activists cried for the human rights violation in Jammu and Kashmir after the repeal of Article 370. They also recommended Noble Prize for Malala for girl children education. But now they are keeping silent when utter human rights violations are going on in Afghanistan by Taliban in a full-fledged manner.
All these are happening because of the hasty decision of withdrawing of US &NATO forces from Afghanistan. The earlier history also reveals that Taliban & Al Qaeda were born out of US support when Russia’s intervention in Afghanistan politics during 1979-89.
For a brief period Afghanistan was ruled by progressive and communists oriented rulers. When they brought Land reforms and given more democratic rights to citizens that was not accepted by the warlords and landlords of Afghanistan. They inturn used the small level of religion forces like Mujahedeen to unite against the communist minded rulers. The progressive measures taken by the then Afghanistan government and the additional support of Russia could not accepted by the Pakistan terrorist. During this period the US fully supported and helped Taliban, Al-Qaeda and other forces to grow in Afghanistan to revolt against Russia’s occupation. This resulted in the withdrawal of Russian forces from Afghanistan.
However for few years Russia supported Mohammed Najibullah government in the power. After he was thrown out, the complete power of the Afghanistan came to Talibans. By this, Taliban and Al-Qaeda were known as ‘B’ Team of USA. In 20021, the reason for US to invade Afghanistan is only to capture Bin Laden. After killing Bin Laden US shows no interest on elimination of Afghan Talibans and the US gradually loosened its grip on the Taliban and Al Qaeda, believing that their greatest mission was over. It was because that the Taliban and Al Qaeda were not new to the United States; nor their enemies. They were indirectly nurtured by the United States for many years. Therefore, no one should believe that the US would eradicate the Taliban, Mujahedeen and Al Qaeda extremists. The main goal of the United States is that the United States is safe enough. Similarly, the Taliban, Mujahedeen and Al-Qaeda extremist organizations are well aware that it is not easy to go into the United States and build a basic religious structure.
Therefore, the Taliban and other extremists will try to expand their power wherever it possible in the shadow of US support. The real face of the super power is to keep the world in turmoil rather than peace. If any international forces should enter, another country there should be a specific purpose and they should leave as soon as the purpose gets over. However, this rule does not apply to the Taliban or Al Qaeda extremists. The Taliban and Pakistani extremist organizations are no different. After the invasion of US and NATO forces, Taliban shifted their terrorist camp to Baluchistan provinces in Pakistan. Now it is safe heaven and training center of Talibans. Many terrorists’ families are still living in that region. In this situation, it reported nearly 10000 jihadist infiltrated to Afghanistan from Pakistan very recently. The indirect support of US imperialism and the accumulated financial aid from surrounding oil-rich countries have greatly aided the tremendous growth of the extremist organizations in Pakistan, Afghanistan and many of the Asian countries. In this circumstance, it is unthinkable that the Taliban and Al Qaeda extremists who were raised by the grace of the United States will not harm India.
As Pakistan is our permanent adversary, the Pakistan-Afghanistan extremist alliance will become stronger when Afghanistan falls back to the Talibans, which is backyard for their terrorist activities. The occasional decline in cross-border attacks due to short-term foreign support will now grossly increase. The Pakistan terrorist always have an eye on Kashmir, once they get another safe haven Afghanistan will wage full-fledged war to siege Kashmir. It is dangerous situation to India to face threat from these terrorists.
When such a situation arises we cannot expect any help from ‘QUAD’ that is the US, Japan and Australia, since US is the reason for all these turmoil. So India has to be worried and bothered and be more alert. The Indian people have always have the ability to withstand any aggression that may come to India. Millennial foreign invasions have not destroyed India’s identity. It is time to infuse patriotism in each and every Indians. “Indian’s First and Indian’s last” that is ingrained in the hearts of every Indian. The 140 crore people of India must be united to ensure that anyone who dare to clash with India will be wiped out. All Indians irrespective of caste, religion etc. should be integrated into a unified thought.
The United States has the responsibility to answerable to the world if Taliban and Al Qaeda, which have been declared global terrorists are allowed to re-emerge or return to power in Afghanistan. This not only affects India’s security but the re-emerge of Afghan Taliban destroys Asian and world peace. It is time for the Indian government and the Indian people to be very vigilant against the Afghan Talibans as Kashmir of India will be the next target of Afghan Talibans. The security of all individual, our home, our region all vests in the security of India.
Let us unite as Indians first and Indians last and nothing else
