Another legislative resolution on NEET selection is unnecessary!
Open letter to prominent party leaders including Chief Minister MK Stalin!
To,
Hon’ble M.K. Stalin,
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and
DMK Alliance Party Leaders,
Tamil Nadu.
Warm greetings to everyone!
His Excellency the Governor of Tamil Nadu has sent the NEET bill back to the Speaker of the House, urging him to reconsider the resolution passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, which urged him to cancel the NEET selection five months ago. In this context, you have announced after this meeting that a meeting of all party leaders will be convened yesterday and a special meeting of the Legislative Assembly will be held on the 8th of February and another resolution will be passed insisting that it has already been sent back. The fact that the BJP and AIADMK did not attend the meeting is to be welcomed.
In general, all political parties and social movements in Tamil Nadu should be called and consulted on the most pertinent issues like this. But you have been making some decisions recently that have narrowed and shortened these meetings to just a meeting of legislative party leaders. Those decisions do not seem to be in the larger interest of the Tamil people nor do they take into account the growing and changing evolution of social justice, and are merely to serve your political purposes.
As a responsible citizen of Bharat and Tamil Nadu for more than half a century, I would like to give as my suggestions some important ideas on the basis of those who have not simply spoken of the ideas of equality, but have carried them to the roots of Tamil society.
After winning the 2019 parliamentary elections and the 2021 assembly elections, you bought votes by promising that the NEET selection would be canceled with a single signature. The NEET selection was debated in Parliament and passed in both houses and became law. You are well aware that it is impossible for a state government to exempt itself from it. However, it does not seem fair to think of using the Governor of Tamil Nadu as a weapon and shield for your political approach and sacrificing the people of Tamil Nadu in the process.
The reality is that Tamil Nadu students struggled for a year or two when the NEET exam was introduced. But, for the last 3 years, rural, poor, innocent and backward students have also been getting more seats. Why do you refuse to acknowledge the fact that only 5 or 6 people were public school students and now more than 500 public school students are enrolled each year? I cannot understand why you are repeatedly being so stubborn?
Did you come to power in Tamil Nadu by getting votes from the people only for one NEET selection? Don’t the people of Tamil Nadu have any other problems? All of a sudden you are arranging a special meeting of the legislature. We have already passed innumerable resolutions in the last 30 years through such special meetings of the Legislature. Have they all been resolved?
One was about the resolutions passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to restore Katchatheevu? And second? What is the current status?
What happened to the resolution passed in the Assembly calling for the establishment of an independent International Commission of Inquiry into Mahinda Rajapaksa to investigate violations of the rules of war?
Were the issues like Cauvery, Mullaperiyar and Mekedatu resolved by the resolutions passed in the Assembly?
What happened to the resolution passed on the release of the 7 accused in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi?
Keeping all these aside, is there any attempt to hold a special assembly meeting on the rising unemployment and poverty among the youth in Tamil Nadu?
For the last 20-30 years, the health of the youth of Tamil Nadu has been deteriorating due to the proliferation of liquor stores in Tamil Nadu and the economic condition of the people of Tamil Nadu has been weakened by the state-owned liquor stores, thus allowing tens of thousands of liquor bars to operate illegally near liquor stores to mint money. The court has ordered the closure of all liquor bars within six months. There is no time limit of six months to convene a special meeting. Why not consider passing a resolution that all liquor bars and liquor stores will be closed from the next day itself?
The prices of all construction materials have been skyrocketing for the last 9 months and what efforts have been made to curb it? Why was a special assembly not convened?
The number of civil servants, which was 17 lakh, has been gradually reduced to just 8 lakh. Why not convene a special meeting to increase employment so that young people can have hope for their future?
Suicides, murders, conversions and social unrest have been on the rise in Tamil Nadu for the last 9 months. Why did the Assembly not hold special meetings to stop it?
How is it fair to the people of Tamil Nadu who are already facing so many issues like these to ignore it all and continue to politicise only NEET selection? No matter how many times the resolution is passed, is it fair for responsible political party leaders to sing the same refrain over and over again, knowing that the answer is going to be the same?
Please understand the political and social realities. No rural, poor, innocent students are left behind or disadvantaged by the NEET exam. If they are relatively facing some difficulties try to further strengthen their curriculum in the state and increase the contribution of Tamil Nadu students at the All India level and provide specialised training to the students.
Again convening an assembly meeting on the 8th of February, hoping for a resolution, and pressuring the governor will only create more boredom among the public. It will also make you politically alienated and expose the tactic of using the hon’ble governor as a weapon and shield to cover up your political failures. So please drop this irresponsible move.
Sometimes, certain electoral promises may go unfulfilled. The DMK and its allies will have to admit their defeat in failing to keep their promise made on NEET selection. They must move on to focus on the many livelihood issues of the people of Tamil Nadu. This is a general appeal to DMK and all their allies who are in power in Tamil Nadu.
Thank you, best wishes!
Do not use the governor as a weapon and shield for politics!
Another legislative resolution on NEET selection is unnecessary!!
